When to Wash Your Hands
To stop the spread of infections and protect others, it is important to wash your hands at key moments where germs would be most likely to spread:
- Before, during, & after the preparation of food, as well as before eating
- Before & after interacting with an infected individual
- After using the restroom
- After sneezing, blowing your nose, or coughing
- After touching an animal or their food
- After touching garbage
When you are unable to wash your hands, alcohol-based hand sanitizer can help clean your hands in a pinch. While hand sanitizer does reduce the number of germs on your hands, it does not remove all types of germs.
